Classic Fashions Are a Must! Save your budget! Wear Vintage!by Yvonne of Vintage Pretties on Ruby Lane With budgets so tight, we all need to look for ways to save money. To the working woman, clothing is “not an option” for a cutback. We need to dress respectably when we leave for the office, and just as much in a retail position where clothing is seen by many, and often we are judged on our appearance.

Joan Crawford was one of the biggest stars in Hollywood from the time of her film debut in the silent movies of the 1920s through the 1970s and was well known for both her luminous talent as an actress and iconic style. She was born as Lucille LeSueur on March 23, 1905 or 1906 in San Antonio, Texas and died on May 10, 1977 in New York City. “Lucille LeSuer” began her 45 year film career with a six month contract with MGM studios in January 1925.

The gorgeous Sofia Vergara claims to have made good on a promise to run nude down Sunset Boulevard after she and her Modern Family co-stars accepted the Emmy for best hit comedy. No one saw the streaker, but fellow Modern Family star, Julie Bowen told People Magazine, “When we went back to the press room, she had made a left turn and we all made a right turn, so for about twenty minutes, she was missing.” When she returned, Bowen says Vergara replied that she “went to run nude down Sunset Boulevard. No one was there

Last time your fabric junkie (me) talked about polyester, that much-maligned, often justly, fabric whose use became common about the mid 60s, and really hit stride starting in the early 70s. We showed some classic, upscale examples of designer poly-knit pieces, but today we have some everyday pieces; some designer items that are, shall we say, a bit more “70’s trendy”; and some uses that had been primarily the domain of fabrics such as silk, rayon, acetate, and nylon. 1970’s polyester lent itself incredibly well to the wild prints, bright (some would say “loud”) colors, and outlandish styles of the 70s

Hannah guessed I was wearing blue nail polish with sparkles on top –that’s one tick over on the color wheel from the actual color, which is purple. But it did have the all-important element of “sparkles,” so she was the first to get the closest answer and she wins! The color is this one, It’s Bouquet With Me . My nails aren’t that long, though

I have decided that I am going to let go of a few pieces of my “most hoarded” vintage collection. It is making me hyperventilate a little just to think about doing it, let alone actually doing it! I will start with my matching set of Emilio Pucci for Formfit Rogers lingerie

Springolator Shoes by Shoe Designer Beth Levine ~ As backless high-heel shoes were slowly moving out of the bedroom and the boudoir and onto the street, ladies were complaining that they were difficult to keep on. In response to this problem, shoe designer Beth Levine created and introduced the Springolator in 1956

In this clip I’m not sure which is better: Anita O-Day’s lovely voice or all the fashionably dressed spectators. One things that stands out in this video is the wide and varied use of accessories, hats in particular. O’Day herself dons a wide brimmed black hat with white feathers, reminiscent in style to that famous hat worn by Audry Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany’s

by Von of Vintage Pretties Pins are fun, and a great way to express your feelings, your hobby, or your favorite things. They are easy and inexpensive to collect, small to store. Great conversation starters, pins or brooches are a wonderful fashion accessory even if you aren’t a “jewelry person” ~ just pin your favorite brooch on a coat, jacket, sweater or blouse and enjoy the compliments! Like most of us, Madeline Albright loves a good flea market, or an antique store.
